Social Responsibility, Foresight, Elegance, Serenity

  • A giraffe will eat up to 140 lbs. of food each day, using its 18 to 21 inch-long tongue to pull down and eat acacia leaves.

  • Giraffes have 2 hair-covered knobs called ossicones at the top of their skulls. With age, males may grow a third.

  • Ever watchful for predators, giraffes get little sleep—only 5 minutes at a time, for only a half hour to 4 hours each day.

  • A pregnant giraffe gives birth standing up, and the newborn drops 6 feet to the ground to take its first startled breath.
